Hydrolysate supplementation is an efficient strategy to improve cell growth and titers in cell culture systems. Some cell lines have inherent sensitivities to trace metals, such as Fe, which can result in bioprocess variability. To reach peak functionality with such sensitive cell lines it is necessary to modulate the Fe content in culture media and hydrolysate supplements, but this is challenging since peptides in hydrolysates can bind trace metals.
